GUWAHATI, Dec 29 � Shillong Lajong rode on a penalty to beat Chirag United, Kerala 1-0 in the I-League encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today.
The sole goal came about when James Gbilee of Lajong was brought down by a Chirag defender inside the box and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Lajong�s Chizoba Iyuikwobe Christopher made sure that his team went ahead and was on target in the 26th minute (1-0).
Lajong had another chance to make it 2-0 in the 76th minute, when Gbilee had a shot at the goal and the Chirag goalkeeper fumbled and lost the ball. Christopher had a open goal in front of him but he failed to convert.
Chirag had their moments too in the extended time and made some valiant efforts but failed to hit the back of the net. Chirag captain Ajayan K and the its defenders were the men to watch out in the field.
They made some good moves which blocked Lajong to have a free run in the field. The best player of the match went to Lajong�s C Lallawnizuala.
