Lajong to play Oil India FC in final

JORHAT, Nov 8 - Shillong Lajong FC set up summit clash with Oil India FC, Duliajan in the ATPA Shield Football Tournament.

In the second semifinal played at the Jorhat Stadium under lights today, the Shillong outfit, comprising of their academy players, trounced local team Barbheta Sports Club 3-0 and cruised into the final in their maiden appearance.

The local boys put up a spirited show in the first session and did not allow their fancied opponents to score. But after changing sides, the nimble-footed Shillong Lajong striker Robert Khongjoh changed the complexion of the game netting three in a row in the 62nd, 73rd and 80th minute respectively.

Earlier, in the first semifinal yesterday, Oil India FC defeated another local team Milanjyoti Sangha 3-1.

Yesterday, the Jorhat District Sports Association felicitated referee Sumanta Dutta for being selected to officiate in the Indian Super League.

Today, local MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami was introduced to the players before start of the match.

The final is slated for November 10.
