Lajong Academy lift Bodousa Cup

TINSUKIA, July 11 - Shillong Lajong FC Academy lifted the coveted Bodousa Cup defeating Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEB SC) by 2 to nil goals in the final played at the Katchujan Field here under light last evening.

In the thrilling final in front of a capacity crowd, the Shillong boys netted both the goals in the first session. Milon Basumatary and Sheen S Sokhteong of Lajong scored one goal each in the 42th and 46th minutes respectively.

The ASEB players were better in exchanging the ball and put ample pressure on the opponent but they failed to capitalise the scoring opportunities.

In the prize distribution ceremony, president, general secretary and treasurer of the Assam Football Association Hemendra Nath Brahma, Ankur Dutta and Dhan Singh Rongpi were present along with local MLA Sanjay Kishan and AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, office bearers of the Bodousa Sports Club were present.

The champion team received a cash award of Rs 1 lakh while the ASEB team walked away with a cash of Rs 50,000. Milon Basumatary of the winning team was adjudged as man-of-the-final and best player of the tournament.
