Laikhuta for 89th Srimanta Sankardev Sangha session erected

BOKAKHAT, Nov 10 - The laikhuta of the temporary meeting hall (pandal) of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha�s 89th annual conference was formally erected ceremoniously by Kamala Kanta Gogoi, president (padadhikar) of the Sangha today amidst a huge gathering of devotees, public and dignitaries drawn from various places of the State in particular and the North-east as a whole at the open ground named as �Heritage Kaziranga Samannay Kshetra�, Kamargaon under Bokakhat subdivision.

Addressing the people, Gogoi pointed out the aims and objects of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. He spoke about the religious doctrine, literary contributions, thought and culture of Srimanta Sankaradeva. Atul Bora, Agriculture Minister, who is also the executive president of reception committee, welcomed the people and hoped for all-round cooperation from people from every walk of life for the success of the conference to be held from February 5-8, 2020.

The DC of Golaghat district, Dhiren Hazarika assured to extend all help and cooperation from his end for the smooth organisation of the programme.

Babul Bora, the secretary in chief of Sangha�s State Committee spoke in details about the activities of the religious organisation in the last few years. He spoke about the important projects taken up by the Sangha like the opening of Srimanta Sankardev University and a bank which had already played a major role in the development of education and socio-economical structure of the society. The bank has lent loans of nearly Rs 7 crore to the needy people. The Sangha has also constructed naamghars and organised meetings, conferences with public contribution. �We do not want to publicity for our services. We want to extend services basically for the people�s mental and spiritual development, reforms based on scientific motivation inculcating positive thought and a will that will enable the backward, illiterate society to give up superstitions like witch hunting etc. He also advocated for a balanced, peaceful and disciplined society, which is Srimanta Sankardev Sangha�s aim. The chief advisor of the Sangha, Bhabendra Nath Deka also delivered a speech.

Among others, Arun Phukan ex-MLA, Kusal Thakuria, joint secretary of the Sangha�s state committee and Rashmi Kakoty, vice-president of Golaghat ZPC etc., were aiso present on the occasion.

Our Dergaon Correspondent adds: Earlier, the fifth executive meeting of the SSS was held at Bardihingia Barnamghar where the meeting decided to invite the President of India Ramnath Kovind to the session in February.

The reception committee with 35 sub-committees is continuing its efforts for the success of the event. The budget of the four-day-long mega event is earmarked at Rs. 2.80 crore.
