MANGALDAI, Sept 7 - Sensation prevailed in Mangaldai town following the arrest of a lady teacher along with her husband on Teachers� Day allegedly for being involved in illegal drug peddling.
According to the officer in charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Niranjan Baruah, acting on secret input, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Darrang, Ujjal Pratim Baruah raided the house of Jibesh Deka at No. 1 Baphpori area close to the Mangaldai Civil Hospital where several grams of suspected brown sugar powder kept in four different small plastic containers were seized from the possession of accused Jibesh Deka and his wife.
The accused lady is an Assistant Teacher at Bandiya Lower Primary School near her residence, Baruah said. The accused teacher has been remanded to judicial custody through the court and her husband was taken in police custody from the court for further interrogation.
