GUWAHATI, Oct 22 - The Government Railway Police (GRP) today arrested Anupama Das, a constable in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and her elder sister Anamika Kalita here on charges of trafficking a one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl.
The sisters were arrested based on a complaint lodged by the mother of the child, who is a sanitation worker at the Guwahati Railway Station. She had lodged the complaint with the GRP Police Station here recently.
Sources in the GRP said the sisters had bought the child from her father who is now absconding. Both the child and the father had gone missing about one-and-a-half-months back.
In an operation carried out last night the GRP rescued the child from the clutches of Anamika Kalita in Pandu area.
Accused RPF constable Anupama was posted at the Kamakhya Railway Station at the time of her arrest.
