NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 28 A woman constable of Assam Police, posted at Laluk Police Station, 22 km west of North Lakhimpur, committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging inside her official quarters in the police station compound. She was Julie Devi (26), daughter of Robin Sharma of Gharmora, North Lakhimpur.

The woman constable, who had been posted at the Laluk Police Station since February 3, 2014, was found hanging from the ceiling of the Quarters No. 4 of the police station compound on Tuesday morning by one of her colleagues after she did not come out from inside till 8 am. Her father was waiting for her at the police station as he had been called by her informing about her illness on Monday. A diary containing some notes on her suicide was recovered from her quarters.

Initial reports suggest a failed love affair angle behind the suicide. This is the second case of suicide committed by police personnel in Lakhimpur district in two months.

In March this year, the inspector-in-charge of the Khelmati Town Outpost of North Lakhimpur committed suicide by using his service gun.
