�Lachit was a symbol of integrity and strength�

TEZPUR, Nov 24 - �Lachit Borphukan was a symbol of integrity and strength. He fought against the Mughals by uniting all sections of people of the society. However, presently the sense of integration among the Assamese people is decreasing day by day.� This was observed by the HoD, Department of Sociology, Tezpur University, Prof Chandan Sharma while speaking as the chief guest at the Lachit Divas programme organised centrally by the AJYCP here today. He also said that today Assam and the Assamese nation is at a risk from every angle. �To overcome this challenge we have to follow the ideology of Lachit Borphukan and fight unitedly against every evil.� He said that the Assamese people are yet to be united in the real sense and consequently the enemies are getting the space to attack our dignity as well as our identity.

Another speaker retired professor, Darrang College, Puneswar Nath mentioned that Lachit Borphukan was a source of inspiration for the Assamese people. The 21st century is a crucial moment for the Assamese people, if we cannot come together on the same platform for saving the Assamese nation following the ideals of the great Assamese hero Lachit Barphukan, we will have to face tough challenges in the days to come. Slamming the BJP�s role in executing CAB, he also said that through the controversial bill, the BJP government is going to smash Assamese people�s dignity.

Meanwhile, the President of the All Assam Journalists� Union, Pankaj Kumar Nath attending the programme said that Ram Singh came from Delhi to attack Assam and the attack was defused by Lachit Borphukan. His army and the followers were inspired to sacrifice for the nation. Opening the open session of the Divas, noted artist, Prithiraj Rabha said that Assam is slowly becoming a grazing land for the infiltrators. If we can curb the foreigners� problem, it will mean respect to the ideology of Lachit Borphukan.

On the other hand, explaining the importance of the day the general secretary of central committee AJYCP, Palash Changmai said that the AJYCP would never compromise with such an act which harms the dignity of the Assamese people and the society.

The event presided over by central committee president Ranapratap Baruah was attended by acting-president of Sonitpur Sahitya Sabha, Ramen Goswami, president, Sonitpur AASU, Abhijit Nath, president of All Sautal Students� Union, Mintu Hemrom among others, who also gave speeches. In the morning, a cultural rally was also taken out throughout the town, which was flagged of by DC, Sonitpur, Manavendra Pratap Singh. Prior to it, the president, State Committee AJYCP, Rana Pratap Boruah unfurled the flag.
