Lachit Divas observed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Nov 24 - Lachit Divas was observed in the city today by paying homage to the great Ahom general Lachit Borphukan at his statue erected in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here.

The homage was organised under the aegis of Tai Educational and Cultural Centre of Boiragimoth. After the hoisting of a flag at Tai Educational and Cultural Centre and brief function, the members of the committee paid tribute to the legendary Ahom commander by lighting the lamps, showering flowers and holding a public meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Lohit Konwar, president, Tai Educational and Cultural Centre. The meeting initiated by Tarun Gogoi, vice-president of the Centre recalled the loyalty and valour of the great Ahom general. Former president of Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha, Dr Bharati Dutta, CRPF personnel Santosh Kumar Sharma, president of Sadou Asom Ahom Sabha, Satish Chandra Gogoi, social activist Meenu Barua and students from Dibrugarh University spoke on the occasion. A choir led by Ruby Gogoi presented a song in Tai language during the programme.
