KVK Morigaon sets up Custom Hiring Centre

MORIGAON, Dec 28 - In sync with observance of National Farmers Day on December 23, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here, which is an extension wing of the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, established a Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) at Monoha village in Morigaon district under a project titled, �Assam Agrobusiness and Rural Transformation Project�.

This World Bank-funded project is being implemented in 10 district of Assam. Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) is a model to popularise and accomplish the objective of farm mechanisation which is basically a unit comprising a set of farm machinery implements and equipments meant for custom hiring by farmers.

The CHC at Monoha was formally inaugurated by Rituraj Bora, Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon. The centre was formally handed over to �Poohar�, a farmers� producer company.

An awareness programme was organised on the occasion on advantages of usage of farm machineries like provision of access by small and marginal farmers to costly farm machinery, thereby cutting time in farm operation and efficient use of inputs.

While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner urged the farmers to take advantage of the otherwise costly farm machinery. In the function, Rajen Das from Rupahibori Nigam was felicitated for his innovative fabrication of manual wooden paddy transplanter.

Earlier, Dr Rijusmita Sarma Deka, scientist of KVK, Morigaon welcomed the guests and farmers and explained the purpose of the meeting. Swapnanil Deka, Superintendent of Police of Morigaon and many other officials of the Agriculture Department took part in the meeting.
