SIVASAGAR, July 12 - Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, in his characteristic way of protest, came on a bicycle from Jorhat to Sivasagar (55 km) on Friday to submit a memorandum to the District Magistrate Lakhinandan Gogoi demanding an inquiry into the abortion conducted on a 13-year-old girl at a nursing home in Amguri town and stringent action against a doctor of the Health department. Dr Hemen Gogoi, Deputy Superintendent of the Amguri Community Health Centre conducted the abortion at his own nursing home �Care Life� and due to excessive bleeding the minor was shifted to Sivasagar Civil Hospital where she is undergoing treatment now. Kurmi told media persons here that despite massive public protests and a FIR filed against the doctor at Amguri PS by the mother of the girl, the doctor has not been arrested yet. SP Sivasagar, when contacted said that a departmental inquiry is going on while the doctor has received bail from the court also in this connection.
