Krishna, Arup should be in Indian team

By Pabitra Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Nov 11 - Considering their high flying form in the Ranji Trophy, Assam pacers Krishna Das and Arup Das should get an opportunity to prove their worth for the national team.

Both the players deserve at least a berth in the India A team as the youngsters are in their peak in the last couple of seasons.

Krishna, in particular, is in a tremendous form capturing 30 wickets in the ongoing season so far, playing five matches. He has two 10-wicket match hauls against Rajasthan and Haryana. Krishna has 95 first class wickets in his kitty from 26 matches with a strike rate of 47.6. He also has a record of eight five-wicket hauls.

On the other hand, Arup has till date captured 94 wickets from 30 first class matches at a strike rate of 57.3. He has five-wicket hauls on six occasions.

However, in the on going season Arups track record is not satisfactory as Krishna has. So far Arup took 18 wickets from five matches including two five-wicket hauls.

If we take the record of Indian ODI medium pacer Mohit Sharma of Haryana, we will find that Mohit has 89 first class wickets from 26 matches. He made his ODI debut in the year 2013 against Zimbabwe and in 26 ODI matches; he has taken 31 wickets so far. He was also a playing member of the Indian ODI team against South Africa in Mumbai on October 25 where he struggled to take one wicket for 84 in seven overs.

Both Krishna and Arup played vital roles in the matches against Rajasthan and Haryana against whom Assam recorded outright wins.

It is time for the officials of the Assam Cricket Association to draw the attention of the Indian cricket board (BCCI) so that these two young bowlers can be considered for the national team.
