JORHAT, Feb 13 - State Minister for Transport, Industry and Commerce and Parliamentary Affairs Chandramohan Patowary yesterday launched the Chief Minister�s Krishi Sa-Sajuli Yojana in Majuli island.
At a function organised at the Majuli College Field at Doriapar, Patowary ceremonially handed over the approval letters of financial assistance to 12 beneficiaries of Majuli island district.
Under the scheme, altogether 3,800 small and marginal farmers from 20 Gaon Panchayats of Majuli will be given an one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to purchase tools to be used for augmenting crop production. From each gaon panchayat of Majuli, 190 farmers will benefit from the scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Government was according top priority to the development of the agricultural sector and for economic uplift of the farmers� community who toil hard to feed the masses.
Stating that the Chief Minister�s Krishi Sa-Sajuli Yojana was one such initiative for the benefit of the farmers, Patowary said that when there is reasonable prosperity of farmers, then the economic growth of a state goes up manifold.
Urging the farmers to increase crop production, the Minister asked them to take up organic farming for betterment of the society. He assured that the Government will always be offering necessary assistance and incentives to the farmers for improvement of the agricultural sector.
Majuli Deputy Commissioner Debaprasad Misra, Superintendent of Police Hitesh Chandra Rai and officials from the district administration and agriculture department were present at the function.
Prime Minister Krishi Karman Award winner farmer Binoy Likhak also attended the function.
Our Staff Correspondent from Silchar adds: As a part of Government�s aim to aid five lakh farmers in the State with financial support to buy farm tools and equipment, Minister of Education, Law and Justice Siddhartha Bhattacharya inaugurated the Mukhya Mantri Sa-Sajuli Yojna (MMSSY) in Cachar district on Tuesday.
Under the scheme, Rs 5,000 will be provided to farmers in the district so that they can buy seeds, tools and other necessary items to augment cultivation. Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri informed that as many as 22186 farmers have been selected to avail the scheme. The beneficiaries will receive the amount in their bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer mode, she added.
Addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the scheme at the Police Parade ground here, Bhattacharya said, �Several schemes were launched by the previous governments, but none of them could sustain due to ill will. However, the BJP-led government has accorded priority to the pro-poor schemes and ensured proper utilisation.� The Minister also felicitated 16 progressive farmers and motivated them to work hard.
Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya slammed the Congress government for depriving the farmers saying that during the Congress rule, farmers had to bribe middlemen to get the benefits. Also, tractors meant for the farmers at subsidised rates were found to be used in the residences of the Congress Ministers, leaders and even the party workers, he added.
Former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha and MLAs of Borkhola Udharbondh and Sonai lauded the efforts of the farmers in agriculture development. District Agriculture Officer JH Choudhury also attended the meeting.
