Krishi Mela held at Haflong

HAFLONG, Sept 4 - A day-long Krishi Mela was organized by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council along with the line departments at Haflong Municipal Board field . BB Hagjer, MLA attended the programme as the chief guest, while Nandita Gorlosa, Executive Member, I/C Education attended as the guest of honour.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Gorlosa in the presence of dignitaries.

The main objective of the programme is to create awareness about the Jal Shakti Abhijan among the people of Dima Hasao. After felicitation of the distinguish guests, a welcome song was presented by Rajesh Bathari.

Hagjer, while addressing the gathering gave a brief sketch on the crops of Haflong.

In this context, he said that jhum cultivation is responsible for water crisis in the district. He also appealed to the farmers to avail the benefits of Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

Principal Secretary of NCHAC, Rupak Kumar Majumdar, participating in the programme spoke on the water conservation mission in the district and informed that technical personnel have been engaged to study the water problems and to initiate action for conserving water for the future.

Two scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Diphu, Karbi Anglong, namely Dr Subal Maibangsa, and Nalim Kalita, spoke on the subject and highlighted present day water crisis and necessity for water conservation, rain water harvesting, etc.

The programme was also attended by Dibakar Nath, Assistant Secretary, Government of India. In his speech, he urged the farmers to preserve water.

On the occasion two farmers, including P Jidung and L Singson, shared their experiences and issues faced during farming in their paddy fields.
