Krantikal Award presented to Basanta Deka

NAGAON, May 4 - The Krantikal Award for 2016 was formally presented to renowned writer, educationist Basanta Deka in a function held here recently.

Presenting the award, Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora, president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha observed that at the time when the Assamese language and Assamese medium educational institutions were deteriorating, a section of people came forward to maintain the glory of Assam and Basanta Deka was one of them.

Dr Bora said that Basanta Deka and other members of his team played an important role by establishing Jatiya Vidyalaya at this critical juncture.

Dr Bora called upon the people of Assam to encourage the Jatiya Vidyalaya movement in the interest of Assamese language and culture.

Dr Bora also stressed on the mental and physical development of children.

Accepting the award, Basanta Deka spoke on the back ground of the Jatiya Vidyalaya movement in the State. The award consists of a japi, gamosa, citation and a cash amount.

Well-known critic Prabhat Bora was on the chair in the function. Kailash Rajkhowa explained the significance of the function.
