DIPHU, May 26 - The only bridge over Kopili River in West Karbi Anglong district connecting the high altitude areas of the district with the vast plains of Kheroni area is the only lifeline of the people residing on either bank of the river. Presently, the physical condition of this bridge is fragile and frail due to prolonged use, without any proper preservation.
Irked over the situation, the thousands of people residing on either bank of the river have expressed their anguish over the authority for their lack of concern over the issue. People of the locality are of the view that vehicle ranging from heavy to very heavy regularly cross over the river through this bridge and at any moment this rickety link may cave in under their weight.
�The bridge constructed in 1972, is completing 47 years of its existence. When buses and other heavy vehicles ply on it, it trembles. We know that it will collapse in next to no time. We get scared while inside a vehicle for the time it is crossing the bridge but can�t help not travelling, since it�s our lifeline,� one villager said.
