Kolkata school champs in CBSE chess

GUWAHATI, Sept 10 - Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata emerged overall champions in the CBSE Far East Zone Chess Championship which was hosted by the Royal Global School, here from September 7 to 9 at the school premises.

The Competition was held in the age category of U-11 (mixed & girls) U-14 (mixed & girls) U-17 (mixed & girls) and U-19 (mixed & girls) were held in Swiss League team format.

Altogether 172 players from 21 schools of Assam, West Bengal and Orissa participated in this 3-day event.

The tournament was conducted by a team of 7 FIDE and National Arbiters led by Lakhyajoyti Saikia (Assam) as the Chief Arbiter. Santanu Lahiri (Kolkata), Nandan Buragohain, Y Dhanabir Singh, Monimala Sinha, Salina Masum and Ravikant Tiwari (all from Assam) were the other arbiters.

The final results: (U-11 mixed group) Champion: Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati, 2nd: Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata, 3rd: Don Bosco School, Guwahati; (U-11 girls group) Champion: Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata, 2nd: Royal Global School, Guwahati; (U-14 mixed group) Champion: Delhi Public School, Rourkela, Orissa, 2nd: South Point School, Kolkata, 3rd: Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati; (U-14 girls group) Champion: Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata, 2nd: Royal Global School, Guwahati, 3rd: SAI International, Orissa; (U-17 mixed group) Champion: Delhi Public School, North Kolkata, 2nd: Maria Public School, Guwahati, 3rd: Delhi Public School, Guwahati; (U-17 girls group) Champion: Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata, 2nd: South Point School, Kolkata, 3rd: Royal Global School, Guwahati; (U-19 mixed group) Champion: South Point School, Kolkata, 2nd: Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Kolkata, 3rd: Aditya Academy Sr Secondary; (U-19 girls group) Champion: Royal Global School, Guwahati.
