Kolkata Police nabs JMB terrorist from Cachar

SILCHAR, Sept 27 - In a covert operation, the Special Task Force of Kolkata Police arrested Jamirul Islam from a rented house near Gumrah market under Katigorah police station in Cachar district on Sunday.

According to sources, Jamirul who hails from Barpeta district is suspected to have links with the Bangladeshi outfit Jamat-ul- Mujahideen (JMB) and was in Cachar district in connection with the trade of fake currency notes. The special police team has flown back to Kolkata with the accused. It may be mentioned that police has also arrested five other suspected terrorists including one from Dhubri district.

Meanwhile, terming this to be a sensitive issue, Cachar SP Rajveer Singh said, �Jamirul is also associated with insurgency activities using the porous Indo-Bangla international border adjacent to Gumrah. He is also on the NIA list of most wanted criminals. We suspect they had an elaborate plan of a massive attack somewhere in the North East. Along with investigation at our level, we are also waiting for the reports from the Kolkata Police,� the SP said.

On the other hand, the Cachar SP informed that strict action will be taken against the landlord who gave his house on rent to the accused. Action will be taken against the landlord under the UAP Act for giving the house on rent sans proper verification of the tenants documents, the SP informed.
