Kokrajhar situation improving

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 8 � The district administration today relaxed curfew in Kokrajhar district in view of improvement in the situation after Monday night�s violence. Curfew was relaxed today from 10 am to 6 pm and is likely to be relaxed further in the next few days depending on the improvement in overall situation, official sources informed.

Meanwhile, a four-member delegation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) visited the riot-hit Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts and took stock of the situation. The team comprising MS Gill, Deputy SP, Pupol Dutta Prasad, Senior SP Sonali Haria, Research Consultant and Sunil Arora, Deputy Registrar (Law) also visited relief camps.

On the other hand, the Group of Ministers (GoM) formed by the State government to oversee the relief and rehabilitation work in the strife-torn districts visited Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts and held a series of discussions with the district administration.

At the same time, the district administration of Kokrajhar has geared up the security measures and no fresh incident of violence has been reported from anywhere in the district in the last 12 hours. However, police recovered an unidentified body from Kaunibhasa village under Kokrajhar police station today.

Meanwhile, in a press meet today president of BPPF Rabiram Narzary and adviser of BPPF and former Rajya Sabha member UG Brahma appealed to all sections of people to remain united and help each other to bring down violence and work for restoring peace in the area.
