KOKRAJHAR, June 28 - Following directions from the Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar Madhab Prasad Sharma today visited all the markets in the town to check the prices of different essential commodities and also to observe implementation of the Swachh Bharat Abhijan there.
During his visits, Sharma warned that stern action would be taken against unscrupulous traders who indulged in illegal means to sell essential commodities at higher prices at Kokrajhar.
Meanwhile, a meeting of highly-placed officials of the Food & Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs Department was held on Monday on the premises of the Joint Director-cum-CHD office of the Food & Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs. The meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary, Robinson Mushahary.
The Kokrajhar DC, Madhab Prasad Sharma, officials from the Kokrajhar Municipal Board, members of the Kokrajhar Merchant Association and representatives of other concerned departments attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the issues of soaring prices of essential commodities in the markets of Kokrajhar was discussed.
Our Morigaon Correspondent adds: As per the directions of the Chief Minister, the Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon, Rakesh Kumar paid a sudden visit to Morigaon Super Market and the daily market and took stock of the wholesale and retail prices of the essential commodities, fruits and vegetables in several shops and business establishments today.
He was accompanied by the ADS, Morigaon, Gopal Mahanta and the Chairperson, Morigaon Municipal Board and other officials of the Supply department of Morigaon. The DC, Morigaon inspected the potato godowns of Morigaon market and asked the traders to maintain hygiene in the stores. As regards the signboards of price index, the DC asked the traders to show the prices clearly two times daily. He cautioned the retailers and traders not to manipulate prices and if the public is cheated by the businessmen, they will be booked, he warned.
The Additional Director Supply, Morigaon Gopal Mahanta who accompanied the team said that in the inspection, no irregularities were found but the price list exhibition in Morigaon Market was not up to the mark.
