Kokrajhar girls emerge champs

GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - Simbargaon High School, representing the Kokrajhar district lifted the NN Singha Memorial Trophy, emerging champions in the U-17 Girls Inter District School Football Championship, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.

In the final played at the SAI ground here this afternoon, the Kokrajhar girls thrashed Kakojan Girls High School of Jorhat by a big margin of 6-0 goals. Aparna Narzary (three), Maidangshri Narzary (two), Purabi Phukan were the goal scorers for the winning team.

Maidangshri was adjudged as the best player while Purabi Phukan received the best emerging player award.

In the closing function, MLA Angurlata Deka, actor Ravi Sarma, Member Secretary SLAC Lakhya Konwar, sports organiser Dr Tapan Dutta along with senior officials of the Sports Directorate were present in the closing function.

Now the Kokrajhar team will represent Assam in the Subroto Mukherjee All India Football Tournament to be held in New Delhi.
