Kokrajhar admn takes steps for violence-free polls

KOKRAJHAR, April 7 � The district administration and police in Kokrajhar district is leaving no stone unturned to hold the BTC election free of violence.

As a part of certain proactive measures, Carol Narzary, deputy commissioner said that action is in on to seize illegal arms by way of operations in few cases while holders of licenced arms have been directed to deposit them at local police stations immediately. They will get back the arms after the election is over.

On the other hand, SP, Kokrajhar said that a group of 40 to 50 anti-talk NDFB militants penetrated have moved to hideouts in forested arreas of Parbatjhora subdivision while some active militants are also moving to remote northern places of NH-31 in Kokrajhar district.

Talking to mediapersons, a highly-placed police official also revealed that within the last few days 2 MULTA activists with arms and a good number of NDFB linkmen have been arrested along with recovery of arms, while two militants of the the anti-talk faction of NDFB were killed in encounter in last three days. However, as many as 11 militants of anti-talk faction of NDFB were also killed in encounter in the last few months this year.

Meanwhile five companies of additional para military forces have been stationed in sensitive areas in Kokrajhar district while the ceasefire NDFB cadres have been confined to the designated camps and the village defence parties (VDP) along with village headmen have been made aware of vulnerability of the situation to resist any possible incident of booth capturing or rigging at polling stations and to cooperate with the police administration during election days. The district is on high alert, sources added.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IGP (Law & Order) rushed to Kokrajhar on Tuesday to take stock of the latest law and order situation and held closed-door discussions with high level officials of security forces.
