Kokrajhar admin takes steps to prevent COVID-19 spread

KOKRAJHAR, March 20 - In a bid to prevent coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the district administration of Kokrajhar has issued instructions against entry of any foreign nationals to enter through the Indo-Bhutan border with Kokrajhar district.

Talking to this correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar Partha P Mazumdar said that the lone entry point at Saralpara in Kokrajhar district guarded by the SSB has been alerted to prevent entry of any third country nationals through this point while screening of other people through this border check post has been tightened.

At the same time, he also said that a medical camp has been set up at the inter-State border at Srirampur to screen people coming from other states. He further revealed that several long distance trains having stoppages at Kokrajhar also makes the area vulnerable, as such a medical team has also been deployed at Kokrajhar railway station for symptomatic screening of suspected passengers in view of the fact that some youths of the district working in other States have started to come back to their residences.

He further informed that the matter of tackling the situation is most significant at a time when elections to the BTC elections are very close and the activities of political parties for campaign is about to gear up.

Regarding BTC election and campaign, the DC has said that as soon as the nomination process ends a meeting of political parties will be immediately convened to convince the political parties to be cautious in holding rallies or mass gatherings and appealed to them not to make people gather very closely but keep a safe distance to prevent the possibility of spreading the virus.
