Kokrajhar admin ready for smooth conduct of BTC polls

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 3 - At a press conference organised at the DC�s Conference Hall this evening, Bhaskar Phukan, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, who is also the District Returning Officer, announced various steps taken by the district administration for smooth conduct of the 4th BTC polls in Kokrajhar district, which will go to polls on December 10 next.

Talking to mediapersons, Bhaskar Phukan informed that various election cells have been set up to look after the whole electioneering process. He also informed that the Kokrajhar Sadar subdivision consists of five BTC segments comprising 7-Fakiragram (non-ST), 9-Banargaon (ST), 10-Debargaon (ST), 11-Baukhungri (ST), and 12-Salakati (ST). The subdivision has 102 very sensitive polling stations, 179 sensitive polling stations and 109 comparatively safe polling stations, out of a total 390 polling stations in the subdivisions.

At the same time, he also informed that the total numbers of voters in the five BTC constituencies in Kokrajhar Sadar subdivision is 2,85,150, out of which 1,42,599 are male, 1,42,549 female and 2 third gender voters. He further informed that elaborate security arrangements have been made to hold free and fair polls in the district.

He informed that for the convenience of functioning, the Kokrajhar Sadar subdivision has been divided into 10 different zones which have been further subdivided into 25 sectors again. Round-the-clock vigil along the border areas, including the inter-State and Indo-Bhutan international border, has been activated and intensified to thwart the attempts of anti-social elements to carry out any subversive activities, he said adding that security personnel have also been deployed in the vulnerable localities.

Announcing the poll preparedness of the district, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer Bhaskar Phukan appealed to the administrative officials and contesting candidates to strictly observe the model code of conduct and Covid-19 protocol.
