Kohora Model Hospital to finally start functioning soon

By Correspondent

KAZIRANGA, July 21 - The Kohora Model hospital constructed more than two years back will see the light of the day finally before August 15. This was disclosed by Dr Ananta Kumar Baruah who has been assigned to make necessary arrangements for the opening of this 30-bed hospital.

The model hospital constructed with an objective of providing necessary medical care to the people of greater Kaziranga area remained non-functional even after the completion of the building of the hospital. It has two operation theatres, for delivery cases and other surgeries and OPD for the treatment of the patients. But due to non release of the required number of doctors from other hospitals to serve at Kohora Model hospital, necessary arrangements could not be done to provide treatment to the people of Kaziranga.

Earlier, there were many such cases where the emergency patients including those accidental injuries could not be given emergency treatment during odd hours due to lack of sufficient number of doctors and paramedical staff. Many patients died en route to Bokakhat civil hospital which is around 20 km away from Kohora. Delivery-related cases were forced to take treatment at Bokakhat due to lack of doctors at Kohora FRU.

But with the opening of Kohora Model Hospital before August 15, this will definitely fulfil the basic needs of the patients of Kaziranga who have been suffering a lot inspite of being staying in an international tourists place of Kaziranga.

According to Dr Baruah, four doctors are expected to join Kohora Model Hospital soon along with necessary paramedical staff. But during the initial period, the Kohora Model Hospital will not function for 24 hours as at least minimum eight doctors are needed to run a model hospital for that time. So for the time being, delivery and OPD cases will be attended with four to six doctors, five nurses and other staff said Dr Baruah.

A cleaning drive was carried out on Friday at the hospital premises as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with the help and logistic support of 34 CRPF batallion and PWD.
