Kohora Model Hospital opened

KAZIRANGA, Oct 12 - Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today declared open the Kohora Model hospital for the public.

The 30-bed model hospital will be able to fulfill the long-standing demands of the people of Kaziranga. This hospital has two operation theatres of which one is for general surgery and another for delivery cases. At present, the hospital has four doctors and a few staff nurses.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that construction work of Kohora Model hospital started in 2009 -2010 but due to the insincerity of earlier contractor, the work could not be completed in time. Later, another contractor started the work which is now completed and the hospital has been opened for the public.

The model hospital does not have proper staff quarters and so arrangement would be made to keep doctors and nurses temporarily in some government owned tourism guest houses till the new staff quarters are constructed soon.

DrSarma said Kaziranga is known worldwide so medical treatment facility is important here as many domestic and international tourists come here. He said that Kohora Model hospital would be named after Veda Baisnab . He suggested that tourists could be taken to tea gardens where they can have their own experience in making tea. This will create more interest among the tourists to visit more tea gardens of Assam.
