Kohinoor theatre to perform in New Delhi

PATHSALA, April 5 � The mobile theatre of Assam is an industry now. The 47-year-old mobile theatre with an annual turnover of over Rs 40-50 crore has been entertaining the masses for the last several decades. Kohinoor Theatre, a leading mobile theatre group of the State, which has a record for attracting the audiences with ground-breaking technical accomplishments on the stage, has been invited by the National School of Drama (NSD) to perform at New Delhi from April 25-29.

While talking to this Correspondent, the producer of Kohinoor Theatre, Ratan Lahkar said that the invitation to perform at the national capital for six shows is indeed a rare honour not only to the theatre fraternity of the State but also for the people of Assam. Carrying all the equipment of stage, sound, light, music, etc., and entire team of artistes to New Delhi is not an easy task, it is a challenging job and Kohinoor has accepted it, he added.

Kohinoor theatre will stage three plays, Ashimat Jar Heral Sima, O Moi Munnai Koiso and Sitare Semeka Rati for six nights with two special scenes of yesteryear�s block-bluster Titanic and Dinosoror Atanka and also two dance dramas. Besides other audiences, the outgoing students of NSD of the last five years and the Assamese community of Delhi are expected to witness the �Carnival on Wheel� on the Indira Gandhi Heritage and cultural centre premises, stated Ratan Lahkar.

He further stated that on April 28, a seminar on Mobile theatre will be held and leading theatre personalities of the State like Hemant Dutta, Garima Hazarika and Tarali Sarma will be the resource persons. Another important part of the show will be an exhibition showcasing various phases of development of mobile theatre, costumes, books, etc.
