Koch Rajbongshis not to sell land to other communities

By CORRESPONDENT

BONGAIGAON, June 23 - Koch Rajbongshi land owners would not be allowed to sell their land to people of other communities in the proposed Kamatapur state.

Very soon, members of the Koch Rajbongshi Mahasabha (KRMS) will approach the government with this new demand.

The above proposal along with some others were adopted by the Mahasabha at its executive meeting held on Saturday at Kamatapur Bhawan at Bhakaribhita here.

Since land owned by the Koch Rajbongshis are being sold to people of doubtful citizenship, besides outsiders, hence to protect the land rights of the ethnic group this proposal has been adopted, the Mahasabhas general secretary Biswajit Ray said.

The meeting, chaired by the Mahasabhas president Toronikanto Ray resolved to meet Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other ministers in order to press for their long-pending demand for grant of ST status.

Further, the Mahasabha demanded to provide 10 percent reservation to the Koch Rajbongshi students in higher educational institutions.

The Mahasabha intended to carry out a sustained campaign in rural areas dominated by their community to infuse work culture among the youth, stated a press note signed by the Mahasabhas president Taranikanta Ray, executive president Nirmal Kumar Ray and general secretary Biswajit Ray respectively.
