Koch Rajbongshi body sets deadline

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 � Demanding a separate Kamatapur State incorporating parts of West Bengal and Assam and lending Scheduled Tribe status to the Koch Rajbongshi people, the All Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani today said that along with other Koch Rajbongshi organizations, it would also launch strong protest movement throughout the State if the Union government does not address their grievances by August 15.

Addressing mediapersons here, secretary of the Sanmilani Bireswar Saikia said that the Sanmilani would start dharna, hunger strikes and protest rallies in every district of the State from August 17, if no positive step is taken to fulfil the demands of the Koch Rajbongshi people.

The proposed Kamatapur State includes parts of six districts of northern West Bengal and southern bank of Brahmaputra River up to Nagaon.
