By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on Thursday served a five-day ultimatum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to make his stand clear on the issue of big dams and demanded of the State government to pressurize the Centre to halt all ongoing as well as proposed mega dam projects in the region.

In a statement issued to the press, the KMSS slammed the Centre for deferring the ministerial meet on the issue of big dams.

In a memorandum to the UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi, the KMSS intimated its

irritation for deferring the ministerial meet and warned that it would be compelled to launch a vigorous movement against big dams if the government fails to announce its stand.

If necessary we will take up programmes like economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh, said the release.

The KMSS will take up agitational programmes against big dams in the month of November and December.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) has expressed concern over the deferment of the ministerial meet and termed the development as a conspiracy by the dam lobby and anti Assam forces.

The AASU announced that it would continue its agitation against big dams.
