KMSS to launch stir against land scam

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 2 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) will launch a series of agitational programmes against the alleged illegal handing over of agricultural land to a section of businessmen in the State, that too in connivance with the Government agencies.

Terming it as the biggest ever land scam in the country, the KMSS has also flayed top agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation, NABARD and the State Bank of India for playing into the hands of land mafia.

As part of the agitation, the KMSS had already launched stir against top businessmen of the State, including Suresh Prithani, Kailash Lohia and Bhurakia, for indulging in illegal deeds involving procurement and sale of land and thereby denying the peasants of their rights.

Akhil Gogoi, president, KMSS said that these businessmen are minting money by using thousands of acres of agricultural land for personal commercial purposes.

In protest, the KMSS has decided to gherao the office of the Central Bureau of Investigation, which had given a misleading report after investigating into one of allegations of land scam, Gogoi said.

These businessmen were even the beneficiaries of State aid amounting to several lakhs of rupees.

Not just CBI, there are evidences to prove that top agencies like NABARD gave assistance to certain sections not even bothering to ensure its existence. The SBI, which finds it hard to sanction loan to poor families, too, has indulged in illegal acts, the KMSS president alleged.

The KMSS further informed that it would gherao the Kamrup (Rural) Deputy Commissioners office on June 6 demanding demolition of illegal construction in agricultural land and return of the plots of land to the peasants.
