KMSS stages protest in Bongaigaon dist

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, March 15 - The Bongaigaon district unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) staged a demonstration against Power Grid Corporation Of India Limited and demanded compensation to those farmers whose lands have been used by the corporation to construct towers to pass through 600 kv high voltage power from Biswanath Chariali to Agra in Uttar Pradesh without paying actual compensation as per the latest Act.

The Samiti demanded compensation and rehabilitation, as per The right to fair compensation and transparency in land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement Act-2013 to those who have to leave their lands to the corporation for construction of the towers.

The corporation acquisitioned the lands without intimating the owners in the district, which is sheer violation of law, Samitis leaders alleged and sought punitive action against the corporation.

Samitis activists shouted slogans against the State and Central Government for giving free hand to the Power Grid Corporation to exploit the poor in the district.

If demands mentioned in the memorandum to the DC are not met soon by the district administration, we would intensify our agitation, said Mahidhar Ray, organising secretary of Bongaigaon district KMSS.
