GUWAHATI, Jan 29 � Members of the Guwahati unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today staged a dharna in front of the Hotel Nakshatra located at Beltola area of the city in protest against Sanjay Singh, who has been imposed by the Congress High Command on the State�s legislators for getting him elected to the Rajya Sabha on a Congress ticket. Singh has been putting up at this hotel.
The members of the Samiti also �gheraoed� room number 505 of the Hotel, in which the Congress nominee has been staying, said a press release of the Samiti here this evening.
Police had to force to disperse the Samiti members. Seven of the Samiti members were detained by the police in this connection, the Samiti said. It warned an intense agitation on the issue in the days to come.
SGBG: Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati has also opposed the imposition of Sanjay Singh.
In a statement here this evening, the voluntary organisation has alleged that on the excuse of High Command�s order the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has rendered a serious blow to the interest of the State.
It reminded the bold steps taken by former Chief Minister Late Bimala Prasad Chaliha in such situations and implored the APCC to follow the examples of such leaders.
