KMSS plans to float new political party

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - Ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections in Assam, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today said it will launch a new political party soon. The organisations earlier political outfit Gana Mukti Sangram Asom will be dissolved.

Addressing a press conference here, KMSS president Bhasco D Saikia said the organisation has already prepared the agenda and constitution of the party.

The party will nominate candidates in the upcoming election and for this purpose, the KMSS will sit for discussion with all the organisations with which it collaborated to continue the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

In 2015, the KMSS had launched a political outfit with the name Gana Mukti Sangram Asom. But the new party will have a new name, which the KMSS will make public soon.

The KMSS president said that if their leader Akhil Gogoi comes out from jail by the year-end, then the new party will project him as its chief ministerial candidate. But if he fails in the legal battle, we will chalk out a different strategy, he added.

It will be a purely regional political force that will represent the people of every caste, religion and tribe of Assam. It will not compromise in any issue related to the interests of Assamese people, Saikia said.

He also pointed out that the new party to be formed by the KMSS would welcome creation of a united regional political force in the State to put up a joint fight in the forthcoming Assembly election.
