KMSS moves PM over Youth Cong activities

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his needful action on the incident of alleged atrocities perpetrated on members of the KMSS by Youth Congress workers today in Sivasagar district.

Condemning the incident as a threat to the democratic ideals of the country, the KMSS has demanded that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita tender apology for the incident within 48 hours.

Members of the KMSS had reportedly held a protest demonstration in Sivasagar for which the KMSS claimed the District Magistrate earlier had given formal and written permission.

The demonstration was held demanding implementation of SC and OTFD Forest Rights Act, 2006, streamlining the implementation of NREGA and PDS, controlling the soaring prices of essential commodities and stopping big-dams that have left a devastating impact.

The KMSS alleged that members of the Youth Congress unleashed violence on the peaceful demonstrators and also misbehaved with the women activists.

The KMSS said that the police was escorting the Youth Congress members and the administration turned a blind eye to the violence perpetrated by the Youth Congress.

The KMSS has demanded action against the DC, SP, Magistrate and other police officials of Sivasagar district.
