By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 4 A delegation of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) met Governor PB Acharya today and urged him to intervene in matters of anomalies in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and also in the matter of confusion allegedly created by the State government on the issue of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The Samiti delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Governor on the APSC issues.

According to a Samiti press release, the Governor assured its delegation that he would request the State government to expand the scope of the SC Das Committee and to fix a deadline for submission of its report on the APSC anomalies. He further assured the Samiti delegation that he would request the State government to bring the total result of the 2013 Combined Competitive Examination conducted by the APSC, under the scope of the investigation of the SC Das Committee.

Acharya also said he would request the State government to postpone appointment of the candidates declared passed in the above examination, until the Das Committee submits its report.

In case the State government does not comply with his request, the Governor said he would write to the President seeking his intervention in the matter as per provisions of Article 317 of the Constitution of India.

On the issue of the confusion created by the State government in the process of updating the NRC, the Governor said since the process was under direct supervision of the Supreme Court and the Central government, the State government cannot interfere with the process. However, he assured the delegation that he would intervene in the matter if the situation so demanded.
