DIBRUGARH, June 15 - Peasant organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today organised a large demonstration here to demand land pattas for members of indigenous communities and other deserving sections of people of the State.
The KMSS staged the demonstration in front of the office of the Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner. It also demanded repairs of all dilapidated roads, improvement of health services in rural areas, power connectivity and proper drinking water facilities in the district. The peasant body also took out a rally from the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Bhawan at Chowkidinghee.
The KMSS leaders slammed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for allotting several hectares of land to Baba Ramdevs project while refusing to provide land pattas to members of indigenous and tea garden communities.
The Chief Minister has betrayed the people of the State. He cannot be a Jatiya Nayak. He has failed to provide land documents to the people of his own district. The people in the district, including tea garden workers, have no proper drinking water facilities, power supply, toilets, good roads, etc., alleged Dharjya Konwar, KMSS general secretary.
Other leaders of the organisation who took part in the demonstration included central executive member Pradip Haloi, district leaders Indra Gogoi, Lakhi Gogoi, Sashi Sensowa and Hemanta Konwar.
