KMSS demands CMs dismissal

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 23 Seeking immediate dismissal of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and three of his Cabinet colleagues for their alleged involvement in the Rs 1,000-crore scam in NC Hills, peasant leader Akhil Gogoi today asked the Union government to order a complete CBI inquiry into the matter in view of the AGs special audit report.

Reacting to the Chief Ministers denial on involvement of any of the State Ministers in the scam, the peasant leader today alleged that the Chief Minister was misleading the public with false assertions.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader also announced a series of movements against corruption in the State that would include a huge rally in Guwahati in the first week of January, a countrywide movement against corruption in Assam and put roadblocks in the Congress poll campaign in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The State government is trying to make the Union believe that the State has little control on the NC Hills Council as its an area governed

under the Sixth Schedule. Quite the contrary, all the funds to the Council are routed through the State government and RH Khan, arrested for siphoning of public fund in NC Hills, was appointed as a liaison officer by the State government, the KMSS leader said in a statement.

The peasants organization has also approached Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh with memorandums to take steps against rampant corruption in the State and demanding a CBI inquiry covering all the departments of the NC Hills Council.

Demanding immediate dismissal of the Chief Minister and his three Cabinet colleagues Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gautam Roy and Kharsing Ingti the KMSS said that all the ministers should be prosecuted along with the former Governor of Assam, Lt Gen (retd) Ajai Singh.

Gogoi also raised several questions on the integrity of the Chief Minister and his role in the NC Hills scam. The Chief Minister did not order the CBI inquiry willingly and despite so much of public rage and large-scale coverage of the scam by the media, a total enquiry into all the departments of the council has not been ordered till date, he added.

Claiming that State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the principal architect of the NC Hills scam, the KMSSs memorandum to Sonia Gandhi has placed the demand that the NC Hills scam be brought under the CBI investigation since 2001.

The memorandum also alleged that when the present Heath Minister Sarma was in charge of the State Minister of Finance in 2002, he intervened in all files related to the NC Hills which forced the Council to seek his illegal favour, which ultimately kicked-started the huge illegal financial dealings between the Council and the State government.
