KKHSOU launches certificate prog on Japanese language, culture

GUWAHATI, Nov 17 - The Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University has introduced a certificate programme on �Japanese Language and Culture.�

A press statement issued here stated that the induction programme of the learners who enrolled in the course was held online on November 16. The programme was attended by invited guests, key officials and faculty members from the university and the learners.

In launching the programme, which will basically promote the need of language learning and inter-cultural exchanges in a globalised world, the University has received all logistic support from the Japan Foundation, New Delhi, the release said.

In his inaugural speech, the Vice Chancellor Prof Kandarpa Das mentioned the historical significance of Japan�s connection with North-East India since the World War II. Prof Das also mentioned the need and significance of such a course besides informing the gathering how the university made preparations before launching the course.

Kaoru Miyamoto, Director General of Japan Foundation was present in the programme as the chief guest and in his speech, he expressed willingness to start collaborative works with the educational institutions of North-East India. The programme was also attended by Kousuke Noguchi, Director for Japanese Language & Japanese Studies/Intellectual Exchanges. Ms Nozomi Tokuma, an excellent language teacher, has been appointed teacher-mentor for the said programme. Some learners also expressed their views regarding the programme. The programme was convened by Dr Prasenjit Das, the Director i/c of Padmanath Gohain Baruah School of Humanities.

KKHSOU is the only State Open University of North-East India and so far 10 learners have enrolled in the course. The online admission to the programme is still on and interested learners can find all details of the programme from the university website www.kkhsou.in.
