GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - Prof Amaresh Datta has been chosen for the prestigious Krishna Kanta Handiqui National Award-2018 instituted by Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University. An eminent scholar and a celebrated teacher of English, Prof Datta is a resident of Dibrugarh.
He is to be honoured with the award by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at a function at Dibrugarh on December 11. Hrishikesh Goswami, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister will attend the occasion as special guest.
The award includes a citation, a specially designed memento, and Rs 5 lakh.
Prof Datta started his career in Madhya Pradesh in the 1950s and later on moved to Gauhati University from where he retired in the 1980s. In recognition to his scholarship and teaching achievements, he was honoured by Gauhati University as Professor Emeritus.
His magnum opus is Shakespeare�s Tragic Vision and Art. In addition to this, he served as the Chief Editor of the highly-acclaimed Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature.
Prior to Prof Amaresh Datta, KK Handiqui State Open University honoured eminent space scientist Jitendra Nath Goswami, noted educationist and philosopher Mrinal Miri, and former Chief Election Commissioner Hari Sankar Brahma with the award.
