IMPHAL, Jan 19 - A joint team of police commandoes from Thoubal district and Bishnupur district arrested the kingpin of a gang of vehicle thieves and drug manufacturers on Saturday, according to police sources.
The commandoes from Thoubal were led by Inspector N Sadananda Singh, and those from Bishnupur were led by Superintendent of Police Dr S Ibomcha Singh.
The arrested person was identified as Md Abbas Ahamad alias Abas Mastana, son of Md Kheiruddin of Moijing Awang Leikai. He was arrested from a hideout at Kwakta ward No.3, Bishnupur district. The house belongs to Maeraimayum Rashijan (60), wife of Md Rahimudsin alias Amuba, the sources said.
Earlier, two of his associates were also arrested, and equipment and chemicals used in manufacturing heroin, brown sugar as well as one Maruti Alto car were seized.
Thoubal police on Saturday also arrested one Md Abdul Majid (33), of Lilong Mairenkhun Makha in connection with the killing of Md Shajid Khan (35) on January 16.
