SIVASAGAR, June 29 - It may be recalled that on June 14 last, truck driver Gyashuddin Ahmed was strangled to death and his body dumped in Dikhow river after he left Tinsukia with loads of tea chests for West Bengal on that fateful day.
The ghastly incident took place somewhere between Sivasagar and Dibrugarh along National Highway-37 and his body was recovered on June 19.
Sivasagar Police began investigation following an FIR filed in Sivasagar Police Station by Ahmeds family and, subsequently, arrested Biki Deb and Kivi Koho of Dimapur, Swarup Sahini, Sumon Chetri and Subudh Yadav of Karbi Anglong, Tilok Viswakarma of Golaghat and Gilbert Pao of Manipur with the help of Khatkhati Police when the gang was trying to hand over the truck and the consignment of tea boxes to a second party from Nagaland.
The arrested, who were brought to Sivasagar yesterday, are reported to be members of an inter-State gang of car lifters. Police interrogation is on to find out local elements who may be involved in the crime.
