NAGAON, May 5 - Body of Sub Inspector Bholanath Das who was shot dead on May 2 at Howrah in West Bengal by a jawan of the 7th Assam Police battalion was brought to his native village Dakshinpat Burhagushaingaon early in the morning today. Soon after arrival of his earthly remains at his residence, hundreds of local villagers, members of various local organisations as well as people of neighbouring villages thronged his house and paid floral tributes.

SI Bholanath Das along with his platoon was deployed in the ongoing Lok Sabha election duty at Howrah in West Bengal. But on May 2, Das was shot dead by Lakhikanta Barman, a jawan of the 7th Assam Police battalion when Barman mysteriously allegedly opened fire targeting his colleagues. In this attack, two other fellow jawans were seriously injured. Interestingly, Barman had fired 18 rounds of bullets and SI Bholanath Das breathed his last on the spot. The family of the deceased police official today demanded a high-level probe into the entire episode and asked for justice too.
