TURA, June 1 � Villagers of Kokaimari, near Chibinang, about 100 kms from here today caught hold of a member of a kidnapping group when they came to the village to kidnap a villager.
While the victim managed to escape the clutches of his would be captors, angry villagers chased the group and managed to catch hold of one. The villagers then thrashed the kidnapper before handing him over to Phulbari police.
The kidnapper has been identified as one Pringstone Sangma and the police recovered a country-made revolver from his possession.
�He had come with a team of 10-12 armed men to the village at about 9.30 pm yesterday to kidnap a villager. The group was allegedly led by one Simseng Marak, an accused in the rape of a girl from the village and has been absconding after he was given bail.
