Kidnapped minor boy rescued

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - Police on Sunday morning rescued a two-year-old boy, named Krishna Rout, from the Bamunimaidam area here. The boy was kidnapped by a miscreant on Saturday night.

In this connection, the Chandmari police have apprehended one Mamtaz Ali from the Maligaon area of the city.

�After getting information about the kidnapping at around 2 pm last night, we reached the house located in the Bhaskar Nagar area of Bamunimaidam from where the kidnapper picked up the minor. After we reached the spot at around 3 pm, the victim�s family got a ransom call from the kidnapper who demanded Rs 10 lakh from them. We immediately traced the location of the mobile phone and apprehended him near the Kamakhya Railway Station by morning,� Bidyut Das Boro, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chandmari, who led the operation, told The Assam Tribune.

Based on the statement of Mamtaz Ali, police later rescued the minor. He was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Boro said the minor is now in a stable condition.

�The kidnapper, who hails from Bihar, is a neighbour of the victim�s family. He is a rickshaw puller by profession,� Boro added.

The accused person was booked under different sections of the IPC.
