TURA, Jan 3 - A businessman from Krishnai in Goalpara in Assam was kidnapped near North Garo Hills by miscreants.
The family of the victim, who was released today, allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh as ransom to the abductors for his release.
According to information received, Samad Ali was kidnapped by a three member group, which allegedly belonged to Meghalaya, on December 31 from near the Assam-Meghalaya border. He was later brought to Meghalaya by the kidnappers.
�When they were seen, the villagers accompanied by policemen gave a chase. They ran into the nearby jungles. As it was dark, no pursue was attempted,� said SP of North Garo Hills, Dalton Marak.
Ali was released today close to the border near Kukurkata village. He was allegedly assaulted by his kidnappers and was rushed to Goalpara for treatment.
