SILCHAR, Aug 7 - In a shocking incident, a five-month-old baby who was kidnapped from his house at Kazidahar area under Sonai constituency of Cachar district, was found dead on Thursday midnight.
According to sources, the infant � identified as Dhruvajyoti Nath � was kidnapped from his house while he was asleep on August 4. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
Police recovered the body of the infant from a place near Sonai Bazar around 2 am on Thursday. However, even as police arrested a key suspect and three others behind the incident, the killing of the infant has raised serious questions. Social media is abuzz with demands for justice for the baby, and people seeking answers from the district administration and police.
Deputy Speaker and Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar has demanded death penalty for the culprits.
Talking to The Assam Tribune on Friday, Laskar, who was discharged from Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday after recovering from COVID-19, said �I am heartbroken to know that the baby has been found killed. My heart goes out for the parents in this hour of grief. I have made it clear to the DIG (SR) and Cachar SP that the culprits must be traced and produced before a fast-track court. The guilty must get the death penalty.�
