Ki-moon apprised of State influx problem

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 16 The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha, a representative body of different indigenous communities of the State, has submitted a five-point memorandum to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon drawing the UNs attention to the unabated cross-border infiltration into the State.

In a statement, the Mahasangha said that the indigenous populace of Assam was being rendered minorities in their own homeland due to rampant influx, and urged the UN to intervene so that the indigenous people alone could hold political power. It also demanded safeguards such as restricted area permit for foreigners and inner-line permit for people coming from other States of the country.
