Khandu makes aerial survey of Dibang Valley

ITANAGAR, June 19 � Arunachal Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu along with a high-level official team today made an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley districts of the State.

Dibang Valley has remained cut off from rest of the world for last three months after torrential rains triggered devastating floods and landslides battered large swathes of the district disrupting its surface communication, including the district�s major route, Roing-Anini road.

Khandu, who had been constantly monitoring the situation, along with the team that comprised Power Minister Jarbom Gamlin, Finance Minister Setong Sena, local MLAs Rajesh Tacho and Karikho Kri and host of chief engineers of various works departments, inspected the vital block points and washed-away RCC bridges along the Roing-Anini road, and the damaged hydels.

After landing at the district headquarters, Anini, the Chief Minister promised the flood-hit people that he would take all out efforts to address their problems at the earliest.

�Considering the need and urgency, my government has already approved for nine additional ration sorties, totaling 18 till date, to airdrop essential commodities in the affected areas,� he disclosed, while assuring to approve more sorties as per requirement placed by the district�s deputy commissioner. He said, �The shortage of essential commodities will be addressed, and the government will not leave any stone unturned to see to it materialised.�

Khandu told the gathering that he had taken up the matter on Roing-Anini road damage with BRO�s highest authority and requested them to expedite the road restoration work and carry out the process on war footing.

Khandu said he would sanction additional Rs 5 lakh, apart from Rs 6 lakh already sanctioned, to purchase life-saving drugs for the affected district. While responding to a public memorandum, he also promised to send a team of doctors and para-medical staff to contain the emerging threat of diseases.

He said the government had already released Rs 10 lakh as relief amount to the respective DCs for immediate relief for affected people.

Expressing serious concern over the massive damage of infrastructure, including roads, porter tracks, suspension and log bridges, two micro hydels and drinking water supply system in the district, Khandu directed the top ranking officials accompanying him for restoration of the public utility services at the earliest.
