ITANAGAR, Dec 10 - Kicking off the BJPs election campaign for the ensuing panchayat and municipal polls at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today promised complete devolution of power to the two municipal bodies of the State if the BJP comes to power.

Khandu said the municipality is presently allotted power over 13 subjects. He promised to allot 20 subjects as earlier assured, if the BJP forms the government in the municipal bodies.

Seeking support for BJP nominee for Ward No. 17, Tame Phassang, who is also the Adviser to the Chief Minister, Khandu noted that this election is crucial for choosing good candidates to make the Smart City project a successful venture. He said much effort was made for winning two proposals for Smart Cities in Arunachal Pradesh, making it the only State in the entire North East to get this privilege.

Since Itanagar is the face of Arunachal Pradesh, it is our duty to keep the capital city clean, orderly and beautiful, the Chief Minister said. He also promised to improve the law-and-order situation in the capital city and assured to increase the CCTV surveillance system and streetlighting including along the four-lane highway.

Khandu said works on building the Itanagar airport started after resolving pending issues, finalising the site and completing the ground survey. Under the BJP, railways service to the capital region has also increased, he added.

At the rally, the Chief Minister thanked the people for electing unopposed 5,464 BJP candidates to the local body elections. The support shown by the people of Arunachal Pradesh is historic and unprecedented in the history of local body elections in the State, he said.
